

The situation of Lagos in the South West of Portugal offers some of finest scenary beaches and climate as proved by history.
Lagos was previously named Lacobriga and subsequently changed to Zawiya when occupied by the Arabs. This changed
the city into a prosperous and popular area and hence the discerning tourists come back year after year.The city was almost destroyed in 1755 due to an earthquake. Little was left of the city but what was can be seen to this day like the
city walls and the “Forte Ponta da Bandeira”.
Lagos is situated at the mouth of a small river (Ribeira de Bensafrim).

A pleasant walk along the Avenue besides the river brings you to the Marina where boats may be hired for the various water persuits.The local cuisine is rich in fish and on of the most popular being “Cataplana” cooked in special beaste
copper pans, also cakes and sweets are well represented and a local competition is held to this effect every year.During the Summer there are many cultural events as well as popular music, lively bars and discos.
